What is the Safer Communities Act?
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is a commitment to keep our schools safe, protect the mental health and well-being of children, and reduce the threat of violence across our country. In total, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will fund over $2 billion to provide assistance in several areas.
Funding will be used to:
Expand access to community and school-based behavioral health services for children and families.
Increase awareness of mental health issues among school-aged children.
Train school personnel and other adults who interact with school-aged children and youths to detect and respond to mental health issues.
Ensure schools have the tools and support they need to leverage Medicaid funding to provide mental health services to their students.
